The mission of “The Aroma Project” is to empower women and support education
of economically disadvantaged children.

Where it started and why

“The Aroma Project”was started in the Year 2022 in the coal mining district of Dhanbad in the state of Jharkhand, India. The natural beauty of the state and its tribal population are unquestionable. It is also a state with rich mineral resources. However, many children in the economically weaker communities have not been to school. The reason could be poverty or lack of awareness of the benefits of literacy.
So the team of the Aroma Project felt the need to support children’s education and activities by selling products made by the village ladies.

THE AROMA PROJECT INSPIRATION

Late Mrs. Chhobi Sarkar (M. A, M.Ed.) was a lifelong teacher, and taught at the Government run schools of Jharkhand. She also founded and taught at her own school “AROMA” until she passed away in 2006. By naming her school “Aroma”, she wanted to spread the fragrance of love and care to the children in the community, through education. After her passing, the school was run for 12 more years but had to be closed due to logistical reasons. The pain of seeing her school closing had given birth to “The Aroma Project”. Her motivation to care for the children led her to construct a children care center through her retirement savings.

Late Mrs. Chhobi Sarkar was endowed with several talents such as jewelry designing, embroidery, floor art work and poem writing. She also took a keen interest in theater and music. She started art classes for children at her home. Her embroidered sarees and designed jewelry have adorned few brides. During her formative years, she was associated with the cottage industry in the famous temple city of Puri, India, where she participated in production of hand embroidered outfits, shawls, scarves and beddings. She also trained village girls in sustainable embroidery and recycled paper packet production. Her commitment to remain active and her dedication to her own school, even in her deteriorating health, has left an indelible mark on her family and the community. Through “The Aroma Project”, we are paying tribute to late Mrs. Chhobi sarkar, an organization builder.

About the Project

We strongly believe that charity creates poverty, empowerment creates prosperity. “The Aroma Project” is not run by an NGO; We do not seek donations. The project is funded by selling products made by trained women through Hitah home goods Private limited. The products include natural incense sticks made from upcycled and unsold flowers; fragrant floating candles made from natural bees wax bought from the tribals of Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu. We are creating more products which have market potential. Part of the revenue generated by the sale of the products is to be used for children’s education and creative activities.
So the team of the Aroma Project felt the need to support children’s education and activities by selling products made by the village ladies.
